Garage Door Hits and Damages

Believe it or not, we have had 33 residents run into our garage doors.  It normally happens the same way.  (Although we did have a drunk driver just run right through the door at 2:30 A.M. and a person texting that ran into the door).
 

The most common mistake residents make is they assume if the door is open, it is safe to go.  Quite the opposite, if the door is open you have no idea when it will begin to close.  The door is just on a timer and 10 seconds after the last person crossed the electric eye, the door will close in front of you and you will run into the bottom panel.  The door has safety sensors but your vehicle is faster than the sensors.

If you drive onto the parkade ramp and the door is open;

 

1.  WAIT ON THE RAMP UNTIL THE DOOR BEGINS TO CLOSE. 

 

2.  PRESS NUMBER 1 ON YOUR FOB AND WATCH THE DOOR OPEN.  

 

3.  IF YOU SEE THE DOOR OPENING, YOU HAVE 10 SECONDS TO ENTER THE GARAGE SAFELY.
